Sankoré People to Know

School Director

Kevin Bartlett

Kevin is widely regarded as one of the foremost architects of modern international education. Over a career spanning multiple decades and continents, he has shaped not only high-performing schools, but the very frameworks through which millions of children around the world learn.

Kevin was the initiator and lead designer of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP), one of the most influential educational models globally, now implemented in thousands of schools across more than 100 countries. His work helped establish inquiry-based learning, conceptual understanding, and student agency as central pillars of contemporary education.

He has led schools in the United Kingdom, Tanzania, Namibia, Austria, and Belgium, including serving for 14 years as Director-General of the International School of Brussels, where he built one of the world’s leading inclusive learning communities. Earlier, he founded Windhoek International School, helping to establish a new model of international education in a newly independent nation.

Beyond individual institutions, Kevin is the Founder of the Common Ground Collaborative, a global initiative supporting schools and systems to design coherent, future-ready learning ecosystems. He is also a co-founder of The Next Frontier: Inclusion, a movement advancing belonging and equity across diverse learning communities worldwide.

His contributions to education have been widely recognized, including International Superintendent of the Year and induction into the AAIE Hall of Fame. He has served on numerous global boards and advisory groups, influencing accreditation, governance, and education policy across regions.

Despite his global impact, Kevin remains grounded in the classroom. A committed practitioner, he continues to work directly with learners and educators, guided by a belief that meaningful education begins with relationships, curiosity, and a deep respect for each child.

At Sankoré International, Kevin brings together a lifetime of experience, innovation, and leadership to build a school defined not only by excellence, but by belonging, purpose, and community.
